Animation professionals always advice to use planning as their key tool before starting any animation. But planning does not mean planning the action in your mind. Planning the action of the animation, plan the acting of the character or characters, drawing the key poses and planning the specific number of key frames or the timing of the action are all parts of the planning. Similarly, it is also important to study the references. Planning seems to be very easy and so many students and fresh animators just skip this step. But due to this, they waste time on animating the scene repeated times until it reaches to their desired action. Including planning will allow you to have stronger poses, good acting and therefore resulting in a good animation scene in a short period of time. If you face problems in planning the acting of the scene then you could always use the mirror to act out the scene, then record it as a reference. Mirrors work wonders for facial animation. So next time you start your animation plan your animation first.
